General Manager's Report

Welcome to all.

Since my last report there has been significant activity at your Club. Renovations have started. If you have been to the Club lately you would have noticed the “Old Girl” is getting a face lift. The Façade should be finished over the next couple of weeks with new signage to follow. Then, wait for it…we are doing a new members area and gaming room.

At the July Board meeting the Board appointed interior designer Steve Innes. Steve was the designer of our bistro renovation some three years ago, and he has just finished renovating the Langwarrin Hotel. It is hoped to have some plans available for viewing in September. 

Next year the Club has its 125th birthday. With the book due to be released next year, “THE MOONEE PONDS CLUB CELEBRATING ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE YEARS BY PAUL KENNEDY”, you as members have the opportunity to get your name and member number in the book by simply pre-ordering a copy. See page 4 for full details.  

2018-19 again was a strong financial year for the Club, with an operating profit in excess of $400,000. This is a very pleasing result with the LGA for the same time down 1.2%.

In July the Club said farewell to long time employee Chantal Luvara. Chantal started her employment some 19 years ago. In that time, she soon became a supervisor, duty manager and finally administration manager. Chantal leaves the MPC to become a teacher’s aid. Chantal was one of the greats, she met her husband Adrian at the Club, and over the past six years we have seen her expand her family with the arrival of Isabel and Gabriella. Who knows, in just over 14 years they may be working at the Club? I personally would like to thank her for making my time more enjoyable over the past 5 years, and commend her on the outstanding job she has done for the club. While I wish her and her family all the best, she will be missed for many years to come. ONCE AGAIN CHANTAL THANK YOU!

Interested in joining the Board? The AGM (held in Late October early November) is when the Board is elected. Please see myself or one of the Board members if you are interested. One of Michael Perrett’s initiatives in 2019 was to ask a member to come to the first 10 to 15 minutes of the Board meeting. Giving that member an opportunity to have an insight into the Board, and be given the opportunity to ask the hard questions. If you are interested, please give me a call at the Club.

Our sponsorship keeps growing. This year was the first time we sponsored the Moonee Valley Art show, a very successful sponsorship arrangement. The Club sponsors a number of organisations, as listed on the righthand side of this page. We are always on the lookout for new opportunities to help where help is needed, from trivia nights to sponsorships of local teams. On average, groups who have trivia nights fundraise in excess of $2,500. If interested, please give me a call or drop in for a coffee. 

Other things of interest happening around the Club include, Father’s Day, September 1, we are opening for brunch (10am to 2pm), bookings essential. Every Friday night is Roast night, and to top it off we have live entertainment from 5.30 to 8pm. Keep an eye out for our GIN tasting in October/ November, this comes on the back of a very successful whisky night.

Finally, I’d like to take the time to acknowledge and pay respect to the family of the late Godfrey Gilmour who was Vice Chairman of your Club. A member, Board members and a great support to myself for the past 6 years. Godfrey will very sorely be missed. 

I wish to thank the Board, Staff and members for their support over the past 12 months. The next 12 months, turning 125, and the completion of the renovations leads to exciting times at the MPC. Thank you all once again.
